Boko Haram On Fire: Takes Over Military Headquaters and the 2nd Biggest Town in Adamawa

Fighting between Nigerian troops and Boko Haram insurgents escalated in Mubi, Mararaba Mubi and Uba all in Adamawa State on Wednesday. Mubi, the second largest town in the state and host of two high institutions, was the worst hit. A parent, Ahmad Sajoh, whose daughter is studying at the Adamawa State University, said that as of 2pm on Wednesday, the police barracks in the Government Reservation Area was overrun by the insurgents while the prison in the town was blown open. According to Sahara Reporters, the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents took over the headquarters of the 234 battalion in the town. The situation is so bad that banks are on the run, moving their cash to the state capital, Yola. Sources say Boko Haram decided to launch a massive attack on Uba in the Michika-Madagali area of the state in response to sustained aerial bombardment of their hideouts by security forces... According to Punch, casualty figures could not be obtained as of 8pm but the development forced the state government to impose 24-hour curfew on the affected communities. Residents said they saw a large number of insurgents at Mararaba, about seven kilometres from Mubi. Sajoh told Punch that his daughter called to inform him about the development in Mubi. He said, “This morning, I got a call from my daughter who is a 200-level student. She was hysterical. I was in Abuja for a meeting, but her information forced me to head back to Yola immediately. “I ordered her to leave the hostel and join her cousins to escape the town. I called my father who confirmed the story. By the time I arrived at Yola airport, the town had fallen to the insurgents. “My parents are trapped while my daughter and her cousins are missing. We have lost contact for six hours.” Sajoh, who was director of Press and Public Affairs to former Governor Murtala Nyako, added: "Mallam Iliyasu of the Bursary Department of the state university, who is trapped in the town said by 2pm, the Police Barracks in the GRA was overrun by the insurgents, the prison was blown open while fighting was going on at the army barracks. The IDP camp at Lamorde area was thrown into confusion. “The new rulers of the town had issued a decree banning entry and exit to the town. Students who trooped to the motor park were stranded with most taking refuge in any house that could welcome them. “The barracks are the least safe locations in the town. So far, there are no reported cases of killings or abductions. But fear and apprehension have taken over.” There are fears of humanitarian crisis if the town "fall" into the hands of the insurgents. A fleeing resident, Joshua Gajere, said several people might have been killed during the shootings that lasted for almost two hours in Uba and other villages. He said, "We are in serious trouble as these boys (Boko Haram) have taken over our towns, splitting into groups and advancing towards Mararaba, Mubi and Vintim, the home town of the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh. They made the Nigerian troops to retreat to Mubi". Gajere added, “As I am talking to you now, residents are scampering for safety. ‘Mubi has now become a ghost of itself as people in their hundreds are fleeing for their lives."

This is what you get in a country where the Presidency worships militants and gives them contracts: Popular Lagos-based lawyer, Festus Keyamo, has petitioned the State Security Services and the Nigerian Police over an alleged threat to his life by an ex-militant leader popularly known as Tompolo. In the letter dated October 29, and also copied to the President and the Delta State governor, Keyamo said that Tompolo threatened to “beat him to death” for wading into a perceived fraud in the just concluded Delta State local government election. Keyamo said: “At exactly 10:13p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, I received a telephone call from one Mr. Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo)…, “We have been acquaintances in the past, so I know his numbers. After reaffirming that he is Tompolo when I picked his call, he went straight to the point by informing me that he wishes to inform me that he and his ‘boys’ will kill me by beating me to death or shooting me anywhere they can find me. And that the hunt for me is on. “His exact words in pidgin English was ‘we dey look for you. Anywhere we see you, whether for Lagos or Abuja or Warri, we go beat you die or we go shoot you.’ “He said he would kill me because I have decided to take up the matter involving his blood brother, Mr. George Ekpemupolo, who was used to illegally substitute another candidate, Mr. Weyinmi Omadeli (48 hours to the election) in the Warri South-West L.G.A elections that were concluded last Saturday in Delta State.” On Tuesday, Mr. Keyamo had petitioned Emmanuel Uduaghan, the Delta State governor, over the latter’s “illegal substitution” of Mr. Omadeli, a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Warri South-West at the council poll with George Ekpemuopolo, Tompolo’s younger brother. “On this issue concerning Warri South-West L.G.A, I have no choice but to cry out, because your decision is capable of igniting a crisis that will affect all of us. The decision was taken whimsically and it is unjust, unfair, illegal, and ungodly,” Mr. Keyamo had written to the governor. “Consequently, it is unacceptable and will be challenged legally and politically.” Mr. Keyamo said Tompolo told him that nobody had ever challenged his authority in Delta State. “I asked Tompolo five times whether, he was, in fact, threatening my life over an open line and he said nobody in the country can do anything about it by the time I am dead,” said Mr. Keyamo. “Co-incidentally, exactly three minutes after Tompolo dropped his line, His Excellency, Governor Uduaghan called me at exactly 10.16pm, and I reported to him what just transpired between Tompolo and myself. “The Governor promised to speak with him, but that cannot be reassuring enough, and I know the remedy in law against an intended murderer is not to beg him but to ignite the criminal justice system against him, no matter how comatose that system is.” Mr. Keyamo said that Tompolo had the “instrument to kill human beings”. “I know the subject of this petition, Tompolo, is a favoured citizen of this government, and I am not. I know Tompolo is close to those in power at the moment, whereas I am an ordinary citizen. I know Tompolo has money and influence (which are factors that are widely acknowledged to aid a suspect walk away with murder in Nigeria), but I have none of these. “In the circumstance, I am making this petition public so that when you refuse to attend to my complaint and outcry, the ordinary people of this country will, at least, know from where my death came and I will not join the long list of unresolved murders. My killer, should, at least be known.”

85,500 At Amaechi's Rally: PDP Is Now Buried In Rivers State

•APC Commends 85,500 that thronged PH Mega Rally to celebrate Amaechism The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is pleased to announce the formal burial of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State. We warmly congratulate the 85,500 patriotic citizens of the State who empowered us to make this announcement through their physical presence at APC Port Harcourt Mega Rally held last Saturday, 25th October, 2014, at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. It was a rally during which 85,500 people struggled to see the man described as the hero of the new political dispensation in Nigeria – Rt. Hon. Chibuke Rotimi Amaechi, Governor of Rivers State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF). It was a day set aside to celebrate the epochal judgement of the Supreme Court that stands as a mystery to many political watchers – a verdict which ensured that Rt. Hon. Amaechi, who was denied his victory by the then PDP leadership, was handed over the mantle of leadership of Rivers State on 25th October, 2007. Instead of the 50,000 expected by the organisers, over 85,500 eventually attended the rally, with 46,000 seated, 25,000 standing and 14,500 standing outside the stadium main bowl but participated fully by following the programme through the giant television sets and loudspeakers placed at strategic places outside the stadium by the oragnisers. Instructively, most of these great sons and daughters of Rivers State that attended the historic rally sponsored themselves to the event, thus practically demonstrating their great love for Amaechi and APC. Joining this large throng of Rivers people to celebrate seven years of Amaechism were many other Nigerians, including all APC presidential aspirants – a former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.); ex-Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; the Governor of Kano State, Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso; his Imo State counterpart, Rochas Okorocha and LEADERSHIP Publisher, Sam Nda-Isaiah. Also in attendance were the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, and his predecessor, Senator Bukola Saraki; as well as a former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and his predecessor, Engr. Segun Oni, the Deputy National Chairman, South, of APC; lawmakers and other eminent personalities. The event was used to celebrate the seven golden years of the administration of Governor of Amaechi in Rivers State that witnessed unprecedented growth in all sectors of the economy of the state, particularly in the areas of Education, Health, Agriculture, roads and other physical infrastructure, the formal commissioning of one of the best stadia in Nigeria, the 46-seater Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Complex that boasts world-class facilities for football, swimming, handball and several other sports. The climax of the event was the formal burial of PDP in Rivers State, with Hon. Emmanuel Deeyah Nwika, one-time Deputy Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly with Gov Amaechi as the Speaker then, one-time Commissioner of Finance and two-time member of the Federal House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011, decamping from PDP to APC with the 5,800 remnants of PDP in Rivers State. According to Hon. Deeyah Nwika, “with today’s event, PDP ceases to exist in Rivers State probably only in the minds of few hungry fellows still singing the praises of confused Chief Nyesom Wike whose vision is just to take Rivers State to the days of insecurity that we have passed.” Rivers APC deeply appreciates all the goodwill messages received at the epochal rally and fully associates itself with the following words of Governor Amaechi at the rally: “They (PDP leaders) have made too much noise. President Jonathan says we exist only on posters and billboards. So, we brought a large billboard for him. If the President is not watching the rally, they will give him security report.This stadium is 46,000 seating capacity. I built it. It was built by me. One of them campaigning for Rivers governorship (Chief Nyesom Wike, the immediate past Minister of State for Education) was the contractor to do the roads. He abandoned the roads and took N3 billion and left. Now, he wants to be governor. I challenge them to an integrity test. Any of them from Abuja to Rivers State, I challenge them to an integrity test. I have worked with them. I have their records and their (records) are in the Office of the Governor. We have developed 750 megawatts, but the problem is Federal Government not allowing us to distribute electricity. We were to give Port Harcourt water. As I am talking to you today, the Minister of Finance (Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala) has refused to move the file again back to Executive Council for approval, so that you can have water. They do not care for you. They want you to die of water-borne diseases. Punish them with your votes. Punish PDP with your votes. He (Jonathan) is our son; why can’t we have water? The problem we have is that the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) is no longer working. Corruption is at its industrial scale. Thieves are thieves because we now have an industry called corruption.” We join the Rivers Governor to laud members of the National Assembly from the State who have wisely chosen to stand by our Governor. We are happy that eight members of the House of Representatives from the State moved with him to APC, while the rest betrayed him and will surely be punished by Rivers people with their votes in 2015. We also join the NGF Chairman in thanking Rivers people for keeping him as Governor and standing by him. We fully associate ourselves with Amaechi’s words when he stated: “They said the reason why the President (Jonathan) is not performing in Rivers State is because he is quarrelling with the Governor of Rivers State. Okay, what is the quarrel between the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the Governor of Cross River State that the road from Akwa Ibom State to Cross River State is abandoned? Are they quarrelling too? It is more of lack of performance. "When the President (Jonathan) spoke in Benin, he spoke in a stadium that was less than 20,000-seating capacity. When TAN (Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria) held their rally in Port Harcourt, they held it at the 16,000-capacity Elekahia Stadium and this was a South-South rally. The rally in Benin was South-South. The rally in Port Harcourt was South-South. This one (APC mega rally) is Port Harcourt rally. Do you remember Ebola? To show you how much the President hates us, he visited Lagos; did he visit Rivers State? He did not care. He wanted all of us to die, but I took it as a challenge and said none of us would die. Whatever it will take, I will do what I can by God’s grace to protect Rivers people. |Can you see our airport (Port Harcourt International Airport)? The president lands at the airport. But see how we look like refugees. They say there is no light at the airport. What did we do to them? We gave him the highest votes in the country and the punishment we get for given him the highest vote is operation nothing. So, APC is the solution to protect our interest. We must go there to vote out the PDP. It is not about our son. "They tell you that you should not vote for these people, because they are Hausa people, they are Muslims, but the refinery in Rivers State was built and commissioned by Tafawa Balewa, a northerner. Shehu Shagari started NAFCON, Ibrahim Babangida commissioned it. IBB started the Eleme Petrochemical Company, Sani Abacha completed it. They are all northerners; they are all Muslims. NLNG was started and completed by Abacha and he is a northerner and a Muslim. Bonny NLNG, NDDC, Niger Delta Ministry were established by northerners. "In fact, when late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua was alive, Niger Delta Ministry was working; now it is only one item: East-West Road, and they say he (President Jonathan) is our brother. He is not my brother. My brother is the man who delivers on his services for me. If the President says he is our brother, let him call one project (his administration has embarked upon in Rivers State).” We thank APC leaders, including our presidential aspirants, for attending the Port Harcourt Mega Rally and for the message of hope they gave to Nigerians during the rally. For example, Buhari said that APC, from next year, would provide security and development in Nigeria, while Atiku urged Nigerians to vote for APC in 2015 to eradicate poverty and ensure steady electricity, good roads and good schools, among others. On their part, Okorocha assured that the APC would provide the best presidential candidate with vision for Nigeria, not based on religion or tribe, while Kwankwaso noted that Amaechi is ensuring peace and stability in Nigeria, as the Chairman of NGF, and Nda-Isaiah stated that God gave Rivers people a good Governor in Amaechi, declaring that he had never seen the kind of crowd he was seeing at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Odigie-Oyegun assured that the APC would wipe out corruption in Nigeria and that APC is in charge of Rivers State, contrary to the claim of PDP leaders, stating that the progress in the state could be replicated at the centre and all over Nigeria. In conclusion, Rivers APC urges the Nigerian electorate to save our nation from PDP’s misrule in 2015 by punishing the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan with our votes in 2015, in order to bring about the much-desired change. After collecting their N24m; PDP rejects 2 presidential aspirants bcos of Jonathan

A fresh crisis is brewing in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over insistence of some of its members to contest its presidential primary with President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 polls. But the National leadership of the party has refused to sell the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms to two other presidential aspirants, keeping the only one form for President Jonathan. The two aspirants, Dr. Abdul-Jhalil Tafawa-Balewa and Prof. Akasoba Duke-Abiola, were at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on Tuesday to purchase the forms, but they were turned back. First to arrive was Tafawa-Balewa, who hails from Bauchi State. He is also the son of Nigeria’s First Republic Prime Minister, the late Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa. It will be recalled that all the caucuses of the party, including the National Executive Council had endorsed President Jonathan as its sole presidential candidate. Tafawa-Balewa had on September 21 condemned the action, which he said was a plot by the leadership of the party to frustrate other presidential aspirants. He had asked, “What type of democracy do we have? Is the PDP a communist party? Where is the place of internal democracy?” According to Punch, he insisted that he would not be intimidated by such a decision and vowed not to be cowed. He wondered the type of democracy that was being practised by the PDP. On Tuesday, Tafawa-Balewa stormed the party’s national secretariat with his supporters and bank tellers, with which he had hoped to purchase the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms. The bank tellers indicated that he deposited N22m into the account of the party with Zenith Bank. The breakdown of the fees showed that he paid N20m as nomination fee and another N2m for the expression of interest form. Rather than being issued his forms, the aspirant claimed that he was told by officials of the party that the forms were not ready. Yet the party will stop the selling of forms to all the aspirants on Thursday. Tafawa-Balewa said he was told that all other forms were on sale except the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms. He said, “I have paid for my forms. I was however told that they don’t have the forms ready. No matter, I am still here. I will send some of my people here on Thursday to come and pick the forms.” He said he went to the office of the Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, and National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, but was denied the forms. Asked whether he was not aware that all the party organs had endorsed the President, Tafawa-Balewa said those organs were mere little organs of the party and were not superior to its Constitution. Speaking on the refusal of the party to present her with her forms, Duke-Abiola, who is one of the widows of the late Chief MKO Abiola, described the action of the party as questionable. Displaying the Diamond Bank Teller with which she paid her N2m to the party’s bank account, Duke-Abiola wondered why the party would issue her receipts and refused to sell the forms to her.

PDP members Weep, tell Tambuwal: Resign as Speaker Now

The political landscape has changed, the leading opposition APC now controls the House of Reps: PDP National leadership has welcomed the defection of the Speaker of the House, Aminu Tambuwal, to the APC but they want him to resign as speaker because he is no longer a member of their party. After almost one year of speculation and hob-nobbing with APC leaders, Tambuwal, formally dumped the PDP for the APC on Tuesday. Reacting to Tambuwal’s defection, PDP's Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said the honourable thing for Hon. Tambuwal now is to resign. Metuh said in a statement: “The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has met with PDP leaders in the House of Representatives concerning the defection of the Speaker. After a thorough consideration of the matter, the NWC came to a conclusion that the Honourable Speaker, as a responsible elected officer, knows full well what is needful and honourable of him since his new party is in the minority. “We are not unmindful of the fact that Honourable Tambuwal became Speaker on the platform of the PDP as the political party with the majority of seats in the House of Representatives and that this incontrovertible fact has not changed.” How Tambuwal dumped PDP According to Vanguard, Tambuwal, who had put all his colleagues and political associates on their toes since 2013 over where he belongs, formalized his defection to APC via a two-paragraph letter. As soon as Leader of the House, Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola and the Deputy Leader, Hon. Leo Ogor, moved for adjournment and journalists stood up to leave the gallery, Tambuwal started reading his decampment letter. The Speaker waited till the end of the day’s legislative business in the House to announce his movement to the opposition party. Tambuwal said: ”Before I hit the gavel on the motion for adjournment, I want to make this formal announcement to this House. Based on the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, and having regards to the development of PDP in my state, Sokoto State, I hereby announce my membership with the All Progressives Congress (APC). “Let me register my profound appreciation to all of you, my colleagues, for the unflinching support you have continued to extend to me for the overall national interest and development of our democracy. May Almighty God continue to guide us all.” PDP Reps hold emergency meeting; some weep Members of the PDP trooped into the Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha’s conference room to hold what members described as an emergency meeting. After the brief meeting, PDP leadership summoned the PDP House caucus to its secretariat. Some members who could not control their emotions closed their office doors to journalists and wept at the loss of a colleague to the opposition. Some of the lawmakers told Vanguard: “Please we are not in the mood to discuss anything at this moment but we will meet this night to deliberate on the way forward”. Tambuwal’s next political move Tambuwal, Vanguard reliably gathered had picked the governorship nomination form over a week ago where he was made the sole flag bearer of the APC in Sokoto State. An impeccable source close to the speaker said that Tambuwal is also eyeing the presidency. The game plan, he explains, is that if Tambuwal failed at the presidential level, he has nothing to lose as the Sokoto ticket is already in his pocket. “I do not know how he intends to achieve that but from all indications our friend is eyeing both positions,” the source said. Tambuwal remains Speaker, APC Reps APC lawmakers addressed the press immediately Tambuwal announced his defection. Arrowhead of the opposition, Femi Gbajabiamila and the Minority Whip, Samson Osagie spoke at the briefing. They said: “We are here to address you on the events of today, the formal notification by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tambuwal, of his membership of the All Progressives Congress. “We welcome and applaud the Speaker’s decision. Ever since the crises started in PDP which led to the formation of the ‘New PDP’, and the defection of five PDP Governors, 37 PDP members of the House of Representatives to the APC, and the formal merger of the ‘New PDP’ with the APC, we had all along known that this day will come. “We are proud to acknowledge that the Speaker remains not only a member of the House of Representatives but also its Speaker. This position is consistent with the law and practice in a Presidential System of Government. “For the avoidance of doubt, the Constitution requires only, that ‘Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives shall be elected by members of that House from among themselves.’ Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has been a speaker for all the members, all the political parties and for all Nigerians and will so continue. “As a caucus, we pledge our continued support to the current leadership of the House of Reps. Father abandons his 3 children in boarding school for 8 years

Three children abandoned in a boarding school in Abule-Iroko in the Ado-Odo Ota LGA of Ogun State are longing to meet their parents who have abandoned them for eight years. When PUNCH visited Solid Model College, the children recounted their ordeal, noting that the absence of their parents was affecting their studies. Seun Adepegba, 14, Seyi, 10 and Titilola, 13, were severed from parental love and care since infanthood. After waiting for eight years, they seemed to have relinquished all hopes of reuniting with their parents. It was learnt that their tale of sorrow began in 2007 when their father, Mr Segun Adepegba, who had been separated from their mother, enrolled them in the boarding school because he could not afford to take care of them. According to the proprietor of the school, Mr Samuel Ayegbusi, Adepegba came to enroll them in his school on September 24, 2007 with a promise to always check on them. He said: “Mr. Adepegba told me his wife had just left him and that he could not afford to take care of them, being a jobless man. The children were very little. Seyi was two, while Titilola was five. “Mr Adepegba had pleaded with me to accept them in the boarding school. Mr Adepegba’s sister promised to bear the cost of their upkeep. They paid an initial N150,000 for the three children for the first term.” But according to the proprietor, Adepegba never kept his promise. He said after the first term, the school expected him to come and take his children home for holiday but he never showed up until four years later. He said the school had expended over N7m on the upkeep of the children since 2007. The proprietor said efforts to reach the parents’ families had proved abortive, adding that calls to Adepegba’s phones were not always answered. He said, “Whenever we called him and he realised who was talking on the phone, he would switch off his phones and for the next two weeks, the numbers would not be available. When the school contacted their father’s sisters, we were told that they had travelled out of the country. “When we called one of them, we were told that they had sent money to Mr Adepegba to defray the children’s school fees and upkeep. But Mr. Adepegba has never come here to make any payment since the initial deposit he made in 2007.” According to the proprietor, taking care of the children had further become cumbersome for him as one of them, Titilayo, had started misbehaving. He recounted how Titilayo ran away from the hostel twice without informing the school authority on the excuse that she was going to look for her father. Ever since she was found, the proprietor said the school had had to keep her in a room, under tight surveillance, because she had vowed to run away to find her father. He said, “The school is not even bothered by the cost of their upkeep. But anytime the school closed for holiday and parents come around to take their children home, Titilayo would fall into a sober mood and twice, she had run away from the hostel without informing anyone. It was a resident who stopped her and brought her back to the school. Some of the teachers, who spoke with PUNCH Metro during the visit, said the absence of the children’s parents was seriously affecting their studies. They said the appearance of their parents would boost their academic performance. While recounting their days with their father, the children said he celebrated birthdays with them. They said they had never met their mother. Titilayo said, “We do not know who our mother is. We grew up in Yaba, Lagos and all we remember is that there was a woman that washed our clothes and took care of us until we came here. We knew she was not our mother.” Seyi, the youngest of the trio, however, was an exception as she kept a cheerful look during the visit. Seyi, who told our correspondent her dream was to become a medical doctor said, “Although I have a faint memory of my father, I will like to see him. If he comes today, I will ask him why he left us for so long.” Seun added, “I don’t care how long he has left us. I just want to see him. I really need to see him.” When Punch called Adepegba on Thursday, his phones were switched off.

Boko Haram splits into 2 Factions over Peace with Presidency

Following the ceasefire deal the Federal Government entered into with Boko Haram, the violent sect has split into two. FG and Boko Haram reps are expected to finalize the ceasefire at another meeting on Tuesday. The source said he believed the attacks on Shafa in Borno State and Sina, Adamawa State on Friday, could have been carried out by the faction not be interested in ending the violence. There had been reports of disagreements among the top members of the sect following the clamour by some of its commanders for an end to the insurgency. A yet to be verified report had said some sect members died a few weeks ago in a shoot-out between the pro-peace and the pro-Jihad factions. Nigerian military is however keeping its side of the peace deal by suspending all hostilities against the insurgents, PUNCH learnt. This, according to a top military source, was a direct outcome of a directive issued by the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh. He had on Friday ordered the suspension of all on-going aerial and ground offensives against the sect. “One cannot say the peace deal has been violated; it is the nature of most terrorist organisations to act that way, and it should be expected because they have several layers of operation. They have such a long chain that it takes time for them to communicate with the top unlike the military where you are very quick communication channels. “Another thing is that each of the cells operates independent of the other. So those who carried out the attacks in the villages in might not even be aware of the deal,” the source added.

Speaking at a thanksgiving testimony at the Deeper Life Bible Church in Ado Ekiti today, she said: “God revealed to me that my husband, Mr Ayodele Fayose will return as the governor, but he never told me the time. God told me that our return would be done in such a way that will beat the people’s imagination. But because of the trouble we went through, at a time I prayed to God to please push my husband out of politics. Later, God told me that He will leave him there for Him to prove His power. “After we left, Gen Tunji Olurin came, Segun Oni and come Governor Kayode Fayemi and today God has manifested His power. Fayose sacks All Ekiti LG chairmen; shuns Government House

Ayo Fayose is back with his very unique style of governance. The Ekiti State Governor has sacked all the Caretaker Chairmen of the 16 LGAs and the 19 newly created Council Development Areas in the state. Also dissolved are all the boards of government corporations, agencies and parastatals constituted by the immediate past Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. Fayose, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, directed all the caretaker chairmen to immediately hand over to the Director of Administration of their respective council. The statement reads: “All the local government and local council development areas’ caretaker chairmen are to hand over to the Directors of Administration of the existing local government areas. The Directors of Administration are to take inventory of the property handed over to them.” At a thanksgiving service held at the Central Mosque, Ado-Ekiti, on Friday, Fayose said: “I am for the masses. I’m not in a hurry to go to the Government House. Those who want to go there can go there and enjoy themselves. How will a governor put electricity in his house and the whole town is in darkness.” Caretaker chairmen were in charge of the 16 LGAs and 19 LCDAs during the administration of Fayemi. The attempt by his government to hold council election in the 16 councils on February 4, 2011, was stopped by the state High Court, following a suit filed by the PDP in the state that some of the members of the State Independent Electoral Commission were members of the then ruling party, APC. Fayemi, who had promised to hold council election before the end of the year was defeated by Fayose in the June 21 election. Fayose had at his inaugural speech on Thursday vowed not to fund the LCDAs with the Allocations from the Federation account meant for the 16 councils listed in the 1999 Constitution. He said “Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) clearly spells the authorities and procedures for the creation of local government. “The sudden and shoddy balkanisation of the existing 16 local government areas by the immediate past administration under the guise of creating local council development areas is being challenged in the court of law. “Our party considers the hurried creation of the 19 LCDAs, after incumbent (Fayemi) lost the June election, as gratuitous afterthought of a bad loser. It smacks of political subterfuge masterminded in utmost bad faith. “But at the moment, the matter is sub judice, and as law abiding citizens, our government will not do anything that will render the decision of the court nugatory. “However, pending the pronouncement of the court, our administration shall be guided by the provisions of Section 3, Part 1, First Schedule of 1999 Constitution on the list of local governments in Nigeria in the allocation of resources to that tier of government.” Meanwhile, Fayose is yet to move into the new Government House in Ado-Ekiti, just completed by the admin of Dr. Kayode Fayemi. Investigations by Punch revealed that Fayose is still governing the state from his campaign office in the Government Reservation Area, Ado-Ekiti. He had on Tuesday invited prophets in Ekiti, both Islamic and Christian, for the cleansing of the Government House. Losers surrender they do not bargain, such a bargain can be regarded as terror sponsorship to protect and preserve the terrorists so they can recruit more northern youth again to freely sacrifice in the war for northeastern land, as they continue their mayhem at a later date, and follows the Ihejrika facilitated endless cycle pogrom doctrine. According to media reports, Boko Haram will deposit the girls with Idriss Deby who will act in their charge and facilitate the smooth transaction. Jonathan is selling Nigeria. The northeast is a business venture and Boko Haram is now incorporated and represented by a nation’s President. In the so-called ceasefire, there has been no talk about the unconditional surrender of all Boko Haram fighters and the releasing of Boko Haram gendarme captured territory in the oil and uranium rich regions of Borno. Boko Haram currently remains in charge of several large cities, which include Bama, Gwoza, Marte, Ngala, Konduga and Dikwa, and control large swaths of land in Borno with hundreds of thousands of Nigerians under their jurisdiction and not just simply the 234 abducted girls. Hundreds of families are under “Boko Haram government.” The release of the abducted girls is no longer the major crises as since the abduction, under the protection of the Jonathan Government and his army Chiefs, Boko Haram now came out of the jungles and captured dozens of Nigerian farming villages and cities with men, women, boys and girls alike held hostage. So what is Idriss Deby’s interest in this transaction? Why does he continue to sponsor chaos in Nigeria? Is it related to the shared Chad basin oil as we have earlier analyzed? Does Idris Debby in this package plan to annex the territories captured by the Boko Haram gendarmes which the Nigerian government has no plans of recovering from Boko Haram? Early this September a Nigerian private jet belonging to the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritisejafor, was impounded in South Africa after being found to have been used to smuggle the sum of $9.7 million into the nation to allegedly buy and smuggle arms out. An Israeli and two Nigerians were implicated. Another jet owned by a certain ruling-party politically connected business mogul, Felix Idiga from Imo State, was also associated with the smuggling of money and arms between Nigeria and South Africa. Family identify 4 kids, 2 adults killed in blaze

MCKEESPORT, Pa. — The sole survivor of a deadly house fire in western Pennsylvania lost his new wife, her four young children and his disabled father in the Saturday morning blaze after the recently married couple tried to save their loved ones, family members said. The fire in the Pittsburgh suburb of McKeesport claimed the lives of Hope Jordan and four children ages 2 to 7, as well as the surviving victim's paralyzed father, according to family members. Keith Egenlauf was hospitalized with burns over 55 percent of his body from the fast-moving fire that erupted shortly before 7 a.m., according to his aunt, Donna Ackerman. Egenlauf was in critical condition in the burn unit at UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh, according to a nursing supervisor. Egenlauf and Jordan, whose Facebook page indicated they were married Dec. 7, initially escaped the flames but went back into the burning two-story house to try to save Jordan's children and Egenlauf's 56-year-old father, Ronald Edward Egenlauf, Ackerman said. Relatives identified the children as Jordan's son and three daughters: Dominic Jordan, 7; Autumn Jordan, 6; Serenity Jakub, 3; and Victoria Jakub, 2. "He and Hope got out, and then went back in to get the kids," Ackerman said. Keith Egenlauf was burned but managed to escape a second time, she said.

Mary Benton, 60, another aunt, who like Ackerman was a sister of the elder Egenlauf, said Keith Egenlauf and his father were always close. "He stayed beside his dad no matter what. His dad didn't do anything without him," she said. Father and son had lived in the yellow wood-frame house for about 10 years, Ackerman said. Ronald Egenlauf had been paralyzed from a stroke that he suffered about six years ago during surgery to repair an aneurysm and used a wheelchair, according to Ackerman. Alvin Henderson, Allegheny County's chief of emergency services, said the dead man was found in a first-floor room he used as his living quarters.

"The other five victims, which would be the one adult female and the four juveniles, were in a second floor bedroom all together," Henderson said. Investigators were combing through the rubble trying to determine what caused the fire, a process that could take days. Others were interviewing family members about the layout of the house and the victims' living habits, in order to get a clear picture of where the family members likely were when the fire began and why they didn't escape, Henderson said. The chief didn't know whether investigators had been able to interview Keith Egenlauf. The Allegheny County medical examiner's office said autopsies would not be conducted until Sunday.

Florida man sentenced to life plus 90 years in rap music murder

Michael Dunn, a middle-aged white man, was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus 90 years, by a Florida judge on Friday for killing an unarmed black teenager in an argument over loud rap music. Under Florida law, first-degree murder is punishable by life in prison without parole. Prosecutors waived the death penalty before trial. Judge Russell Healey gave Dunn the maximum 90 additional years for earlier convictions on three counts of attempted murder of the other teens, none of whom were injured, to be served consecutively. On a fourth charge of shooting a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle, Dunn received 15 years to be served concurrently. The Dunn case drew comparisons to that of George Zimmerman, who was acquitted of murder in Florida last year in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, another unarmed black 17-year-old. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, said he fired in self-defense. In an emotional statement, Davis' mother told the court she forgave Dunn in order to move on with her life. "I choose to forgive you, Mr. Dunn, for taking my son's life," she said. "Anger and bitterness will not honor my son's life. I walk in freedom, knowing the Lord's justice has been served." In a statement before the sentence was read Dunn expressed his regret to the Davis family, saying he was sorry for the their loss. "If I could roll back time and do things differently, I would," he said. Even though he said he acted in fear for his life and did what he thought he had to do, "I am mortified that I took a life, whether it was justified or not,” he added. On the night of the murder, Dunn and Davis exchanged words before the shooting about the loud music coming from the SUV. The jury, composed of 10 whites and two blacks, took less than five hours to reach a verdict. In a previous trial in February, a jury deadlocked after deliberating the murder charge in Davis' death for four days, but convicted Dunn on three counts of attempted murder for firing at the other teenagers in the vehicle.

Fearing Ebola, some US communities take dramatic steps

Washington (AFP) - As President Barack Obama on Saturday urged against "hysteria or fear" over Ebola, US media had reports of communities taking seemingly overzealous measures against the disease.A teacher from Maine was placed on three-weeks paid leave because she'd traveled to Texas for a conference -- where she'd stayed in a hotel 10 miles (16 kilometers) from the hospital in which the first case of the virus was diagnosed in the United States.A Pulitzer-prize-winning photographer was uninvited from speaking at a journalism school, because he'd gone to Ebola hotspot Liberia, even though he'd been back 21 days and was showing no symptoms. And a group of Mississippi parents pulled their kids from school because the principal recently traveled to Africa -- though he'd been to a completely different part of the continent from where the Ebola epidemic is wreaking havoc. In each case, parents or officials involved say they were acting out of an abundance of caution. In the Maine case, Matt Dexter, who has a child at Strong Elementary School in the coastal city of Portland, told the Portland Press Herald that many parents were concerned the school had sent a teacher to Dallas without telling parents. "I'm really tired of people telling everyone, on the news, starting at the national level, 'zero risk, low risk,'" Dexter told the newspaper. "The bottom line is that there is risk." Two nurses in Dallas caught Ebola after caring for a Liberian man, Thomas Eric Duncan, who died October 8 after becoming the first case diagnosed in the United States. In New York state, Syracuse University rescinded its invitation to three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Michel du Cille of The Washington Post, because he had been working in Liberia.Du Cille, who had been scheduled to offer expert critiques as part of a journalism program, had already been back 21 days, which health officials say is the outer limit for the disease's incubation, and was symptom-free. "I am disappointed in the level of journalism at Syracuse, and I am angry that they missed a great teaching opportunity," he told News Photographer magazine. "Instead they have decided to jump in with the mass hysteria." The journalism school said it acted after a student voiced unease. "While I don’t want to contribute to the fears about the disease, I believed we needed to exercise due caution," dean Lorraine Branham said in a statement. In Hazlehurst, Mississippi, some parents pulled their children from a middle school because the principal had traveled to Zambia to attend his brother's funeral. Zambia is in southern Africa, far from the Ebola crisis in West Africa. In his weekly address to the nation on Saturday, Obama cautioned against over-reacting to Ebola. "This is a serious disease, but we can't give in to hysteria or fear -- because that only makes it harder to get people the accurate information they need," the president said. "We have to be guided by the science. We have to remember the basic facts."

Woman Goes to Jail for Not Mowing Lawn

If you are a resident of Lenoir City, Tennessee, you might want to remember to mow your lawn — otherwise, you will be spending the night in jail. Karen Holloway just spent six hours in a jail cell for failing to maintain her yard in accordance with the standards set by the city. The saga began last summer, when Holloway was sent a citation for her overgrown grass and shrubbery. Holloway, who works a full-time job and has two children living at home, a husband in school, and one family vehicle, admits the yard needed some attention but that it just wasn't feasible to do the work. "The bushes and trees were overgrown. But that's certainly not a criminal offense," she says. Last week, Judge Terry Vann handed down a five-day jail sentence to Holloway for refusing to comply with the city ordinances regarding yard maintenance, specifically the lack thereof. Holloway feels this was all just too much, saying, "It's not right. Why would you put me in jail with child molesters and people who've done real crimes, because I haven't maintained my yard." In addition to the severity of the sentencing, Holloway say she also feels that she was bullied during the process because she was never read her rights or told that she could have a lawyer present. This isn't the first time Holloway has been cited by the city. While her husband was serving in the military and deployed overseas, she was also sent a citation. On Tuesday, when she stood in front of the court once more, her sentence was reduced to six hours. The judge admitted Holloway is not a criminal, and that this is not a criminal case — but she was still sentenced to jail. Holloway turned herself in Tuesday evening and served her six hours. Neither the judge nor the police chief have responded with comments. This is not the first time someone has been sentenced to jail because of the state of his or her property. Linda Ruggles of South Carolina was unable to pay the $500 fine for the loose shingles left on her roof after repairs stalled following the 2008 recession. She spent six days in jail. As far as Karen Holloway, she's enlisted an army of friends and family to help keep her lawn shipshape. She'll be back in court for a follow-up hearing in November to check on the progress. Pennsylvania ambush suspect spotted carrying gun, police say

MOUNTAINHOME The survivalist charged with murdering a Pennsylvania trooper and wounding another was spotted near his old high school carrying a rifle and with mud smeared on his face, police said on Saturday, five weeks after a manhunt for the suspect began. Eric Frein, 31, who is on the FBI's Most Wanted list, was spotted by a woman in a "surprise encounter" while she was taking a walk, said Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police. The woman said she came as close as 15 or 20 feet away from a man who police believe was Frein as he was standing on the side of the road at about 9 p.m. on Friday. Even though it was dark, she apparently had a good look at the man, Bivens said, adding that she provided enough detail to make authorities confident that it was the suspect. Frein is wanted in the Sept. 12 sniper attack that killed Corporal Bryon Dickson and wounded Trooper Alex Douglass outside a state police barracks in Blooming Grove. The latest reported sighting of Frein, a former member of the rifle team at Pocono Mountain East High School in Paradise Township, was about five or six miles from the area where police had concentrated their patrols. The search has focused on the thick woods around the house in Canadensis, about 130 miles north of Philadelphia, where Frein lived with his parents until a few weeks before the ambush on the troopers. At a press conference attended by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett, Bivens was asked if police have found a motive for the attack. "We know he had a dislike of law enforcement for a long time, and we found documents that support that," Bivens said. Bivens said state police have notified school officials of the sighting and said troopers have a "strong presence" in the area.

Sick woman at Dallas train station not on Ebola watchlist: official

(Reuters) - A Dallas bus and train station was closed on Saturday after a report that a woman fell ill at the facility, but the transit authority denied an earlier report that the woman had been on a watchlist for possible exposure to Ebola. The woman exited a northbound train at the White Rock Station and vomited, leading the Dallas Area Rapid Transit system to close the station as a precaution. "The person being treated by Dallas Fire Rescue at White Rock Station is NOT on any Ebola watchlist," Morgan Lyons, a DART spokeswoman, wrote in an email. "There are no indications of any biohazards or spills on any vehicle she has used," said Lyons. "We're inspecting the train and the platform and will clean the facility and vehicle as needed consistent with our protocol." Earlier, a Dallas television station reported the woman had been one of the people in the area monitored for possible exposure to the often-fatal Ebola virus. The incident highlights the heightened state of awareness of the dangers of spreading the disease, especially in Dallas, where a Liberian national became the first person infected with the virus to die in the United States. Obama to seek more funds to fight Ebola: Bloomberg

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama is preparing to ask Congress for additional funding to fight the Ebola virus, Bloomberg reported on Saturday, citing White House and congressional officials. Obama could make the request as early as next week, the congressional official told Bloomberg. Both officials declined to say how much additional funding Obama would seek, the report said. White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters on Friday that Obama had not made any decisions about whether additional resources were necessary. The U.S. government now has more than $1 billion available to fight the spread of Ebola from three West African countries, where it has killed more than 4,500 people. Obama, who has been criticized by Republicans for the administration's handling of Ebola, urged Americans on Saturday not to give in to "hysteria" about the spread of the virus. Three people have been diagnosed with Ebola in the United States and more than 100 are being monitored for possible signs of the disease. The workers warned Fayose against borrowing money to pay salaries, asking him to focus on issues that would enhance the development of the state. They also asked the governor to make workers’ welfare one of his administration’s priorities. The workers, represented by Chairman, Trade Union Congress in the state, Mr. Kola Olaiya, and Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Mr. Ayo Aluko, told Punch that Fayose would receive the support of relevant stakeholders if he tailored his administration’s priority towards issues that would engender the development of the state. The union leaders said if he would borrow money at all, the money should be spent on viable projects that would generate income for the state. Olaiya of TUC said, “One thing that can stand the governor out is for him to focus on the welfare of workers because when workers are paid as and when due, the problem of the informal sector will be solved as market women and the artisans will get money to trade. The new governor should not borrow money to pay the workers in his bid to please them.” On his part, Olaiya of NLC said, “One thing I am sure of is that there are issues on ground that the new governor will look into. We are battling with salary arrears, deductions and other welfare packages. I believe those are the areas the governor will look into. Finally, there are strong indications that the 218 schoolgirls abducted six months ago in Chibok, Borno State, by the violent Boko Haram sect may be released on Monday following a ceasefire agreement the sect negotiators reached with the Federal Government. The Government, through the Nigerian military, had on Friday said that it had agreed to a ceasefire with the heartless terrorists group and that the Chibok girls would soon be released. The deal was announced by the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh. Nigerian military has struggled to defeat Boko Haram which began attack against Nigeria since 2009. The President’s Principal Secretary, Hassan Tukur, told BBC Focus on Africa that an agreement to end the Boko Haram hostilities had been reached after talks with the violent group. He said, “The Boko Haram members have assured us that they have the girls and that they will release them. I am cautiously optimistic.” He said the agreement was reached after one month of negotiations in Saudi Arabia. The negotiation was said to have been headed by the Chadian President Idriss Deby. Tukur said Boko Haram announced a unilateral ceasefire on Thursday and the government had responded. Tukur and Danladi Ahmadu, who calls himself the Secretary-General of Boko Haram, told VOA’s Hausa service that the abducted girls would be released on Monday in Chad. The girls are alive, “in good condition and unharmed,” Ahmadu said. President Goodluck Jonathan has faced strong criticism over a deteriorating security situation in Nigeria, with villages in the North-East Borno State inaccessible due to the threat from Boko Haram. The group had demanded the release of detained extremists in exchange for the schoolgirls. The Defence Headquarters have directed all commanders to stop offensive against the Boko Haram sect. The Chief of Defence Staff said he had directed his officers to comply with the ceasefire agreement. Badeh said, “A ceasefire agreement has been concluded between the Federal Government and the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal Jihad (Boko Haram).” Badeh added, “Without any prejudice to the outcome of our three days interactions, and the conclusions of this forum, I wish to inform this audience that a ceasefire agreement has been concluded between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Allul Sunna Li Daawa Waj Jihad. “I have accordingly directed the service chiefs to ensure immediate compliance with this development in the field.”
